#CafeHopKL : I am 80's Cafe

Hi peeps,

How many of you here are born in the roaring eighties?

Not me, but I had the pleasure of attending a food review along with a few other bloggers in a cafe that offered me some interesting insight to that era.

It's not in an area that I'm familiar with - SS4, but there's a rather interesting story behind the location. TK Dong, owner of the cafe told us that while he was driving in heavy rain, he came across this place that was still easily discernible .. that's why he decided on this shoplot. Ample parking space, guaranteed because not many shops are occupied yet.

At first sight, the cafe may seem a little small..

but there's more space in the basement !

As you pass the stairwell , you'll see an abundance of decorative items from old times.
The basement is definitely more spacious compared to the top floor, suitable for gamily gatherings or events .
Colourful decorative pieces adorn the wall .
Well.. the basement didn't really seem to me as very 80's themed due to the addition of animal print cushions (which were really cute ! ) but the atmosphere was very well made up for by the vinyl themed wall & an old bar sign.

Rocking horses!

The menu .

Audrey took the liberty to order for us all, and to share , we all selected to try their signature dish - 80's signature , priced at RM 75.

Served on a tray, it includes a roasted 1/2 chicken, onion rings, chicken sausages, fish and chips, sweet corn, hash brown, garden greens, garlic breads, alongside their in house BBQ sauce.
The other dishes we had were : Charcoal Grilled Chicken Chop, Mushroom soup (with truffle oil) , Cesar Smoked Salmon Salad and Smoked Duck Pesto

We got to dine on metal plates, which brought back fond memories of dining at my relative's place when I was really young.

Pictured here is the American Brunch, priced at RM 35.
The portion is adequate for 2 persons, includes a chicken sausage, sauteed onion and potatoes, garden salad, scrambled egg, baked bean, smoked chicken ham, hash brown and baguette.

I loved the scrambled egg, done just the way I like it.
I also ordered a mocha for myself, because what's a cafe hopper to do without her coffee?

- their coffees are priced between RM 9 -11.
They also serve their handmade "cold brew".. actually, it's their specialty cofee (priced at RM10) , made from local coffee.

A specialty from Sibu , "Kom Pia".

My first time trying this , the chef filled it up with roasted chicken instead of the original roasted pork

A childhood staple & local specialty - bottled sarsi straight from the factory , I find this variation a little less sweeter than F&N's.

These frozen fruit smoothies come highly recommended by TK Dong(the owner) & myself!

With 7 flavours on the menu, I'm sure all of us would be spoilt for choice. The ones we had were Mixed Berries & Dragon Fruit, Apple Orange & Lychee, and Peach Mango with Magic Ball(which pop in your mouth!)

Also, you can bring the container back with you as a memento .

After we had all filled our tummies, it was time for dessert!
"Dancing in the pan" - an improved version of ABC cafe's sizzling brownies .
A combination of Vanilla Ice cream & bread pudding , very french inspired and my absolute favorite dish. Everyone was trying to nab the second serving all for themselves! :p

We all had a fun time getting to know each other and dining together. Well, the chef also said something which I feel is very apt . I quote : " Sometimes we may not remember where and when we had a certain dish, but what's more important is the company that you dine with."
